What should you do when occupying or vacating premises?

If you are about to take over a new property (or vacate one) ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS read the electricity, gas and water meters on the day of handover and, wherever possible, take a digital photograph of the meters as well - a digital photograph can be emailed to the supply company to resolve a billing error quickly (and without any argument!)
