Benchmarking mobile telephone usage and costs

We have been working with a number of clients to develop benchmarking data for mobile telecommunications and in this article we update this data.

The charts (shown in the PDF document which can be downloaded on the right hand side of this page) detail 14 months' comparative details for five clients and show:

• average monthly cost per handset;
• average monthly minutes per handset;
• average monthly SMS messages per handset; and
• average number of calls per handset per month.

The average monthly cost per handset remains between £4.00 and £6.00, although one client is still seeing monthly chages of above £9.00 per handset.

We have normalised the data for March and April 2007 to remove the anomalies that resulted from faulty equipment, as this was artificially "skewing" the cost trends.
