- Imbalance cost
- The cost to the energy supplier of being in an imbalance situation.
- IMEI
- The International Mobile Equipment Identity number, or IMEI number, is unique to every GSM and UMTS mobile phone. It is usually found printed on the phone underneath the battery and can also be found by dialing the sequence *#06# into the phone.
- Interconnector
- A gas pipeline linking the UK and the Continent e.g. from Bacton to Zeebrugge.
- Interruptible gas
- Gas supply that may be interrupted by Transco or the supplier to maintain the transmission/distribution system to allow supplies to firm gas consumers when there is a constraint on the system. Customers with an interruptible gas supply must have an alternative power supply should an interruption to the gas supply occur.
- kVA
- Kilovoltampere. Unit of measurement for electricity available capacity and in some cases maximum demand. Referred to as KVArh when used to measure reactive power.
- kW
- A unit of power equal to 1,000 Watts. A watt is the standard power unit and a measurement of demand, including maximum demand.
- kWh
- Kilowatt Hour. A measurement of energy consumed. The amount of energy used in an hour. Energy (kWh) = Power (kW) x Time (h)
- Least Cost Routing
- In international voice telecommunications, least cost routing (LCR) is one of the processes that can provide organisations with reduced cost telephone calls. Within a telecoms carrier, an LCR team will be choosing routes from a number of suppliers for five hundred or more destinations across the world on a weekly or even daily basis to maintain a competitive cost base and acceptable call quality. An LCR service is usually implemented by programming a client's PABX to route specific call types to different networks using a 4 digit prefix which is automatically appended to each call made.
- LECs
- Levy Exemption Certificates provide exemption from the Climate Change Levy for electricity supplies from renewable and good quality Combined Heat and Power unit (CHP) generation.
- Levy exemption certificate
- Exemption from the Climate Change Levy on the electricity to which the LEC relates. LECs are issued for electricity generated from renewable sources, good quality CHP and coalmine methane.
